Patna Ring Road & Bypass 2026: Status, Route, Plot Check
Quick answer
Patna Ring Road (NH-131G) is being built in pieces. Only one piece is complete: Kanhauli to Ramnagar, 39.16 km, inaugurated on 2 March 2024.
- The Ganga bridge at Sherpur–Dighwara was due in September 2027. News in 2026 gives later dates.
- Kanhauli–Sherpur and the northern part were not yet awarded on 1 March 2026.
But a road on paper can still take your land. Check the notification before you pay. Checked 30 October 2026.
Patna Ring Road: which pieces are built and which are not?
| Piece (all six-lane) | Where it stands |
|---|---|
| Kanhauli → Ramnagar 39.16 km | Complete. Inaugurated on 2 March 2024. |
| Sherpur → Dighwara Ganga bridge and approaches, 14.52 km | Work began on 5 September 2023. The official date was 5 September 2027. A 9 July 2026 report says the minister called the scheduled date March 2029 and asked for December 2028. |
| Kanhauli → Sherpur 8.48 km | Not yet awarded on 1 March 2026. Land notices were at 85% in November 2025. |
| Northern part Bidupur/Kalyanpur–Sarari–Astipur–Nayagaon, 31 km | Not yet awarded on 1 March 2026. |
| Ramnagar → Kachchi Dargah 14.5 km | Under construction, cost ₹1,183 crore, target 2028 (one news report, 29 September 2026). |
The Kanhauli–Sherpur stretch also joins the Bihta–Danapur elevated corridor. That corridor, 25.08 km, was due on 8 September 2026 as per the December 2024 reply. We found no later official figure.

Patna bypass: the old, the new and the third bypass
"Bypass" in Patna means three different roads. The Master Plan 2031 names all of them.
| Road | What the Master Plan says |
|---|---|
| Old Bypass | The first major road to ease east–west traffic. The plan lists it for widening to 27.43 m (90 ft). |
| New Bypass | Built to cut congestion. The Ganga Bridge approach joins it by a grade-separated corridor. |
| Third Bypass | Proposed. From Deedar Ganj in the east to the Danapur–Maner road near Danapur village. Proposed width 60.96 m (200 ft). |
The Third Bypass is a plan only. We found no official date for it. Land on its line may be needed for the road. Ask PMAA in writing before you buy near it.
Drainage north of the new bypass, in eastern Patna, is poor in places. See our flood and drainage check.

Is your plot on the Ring Road? How to check
- Take your mauza, thana number and khesra from the jamabandi or khatiyan.
- Ask the District Land Acquisition Office (भू-अर्जन कार्यालय), Patna, in writing. Is this khesra under a 3A or 3D notification for NH-131G?
- Look at the Master Plan map for the 60 m and 80 m road lines near your village. See where those roads will run.
- Keep the written reply. A broker's word is not proof.
Here is what each notice means for a land owner:
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| 3A notification (first notice) | The Central Government says it intends to take the land. The notice describes the land. It is published in the Gazette and in two local newspapers. |
| Objections | Any interested person may object in writing within 21 days. The competent authority hears the objector, then allows or rejects the objection. |
| 3D notification (final declaration) | The land passes to the Central Government, free from all encumbrances such as loans and mortgages. |
| Compensation | The competent authority fixes the amount by order. After it is deposited, the owner must hand over possession within 60 days of the notice. We do not quote any rate. |
You can write this line to the office: "Please confirm whether khesra no. __, mauza __, thana no. __ is covered by any notification for NH-131G (Patna Ring Road) or by any proposed bypass."

Master Plan map or NHAI notification: which one counts?
The Master Plan 2031 was notified in 2016. On the Ring Road it only says that the project is "under consideration of the Government". The road has since become NH-131G, a national highway.
So for the Ring Road, the NHAI notification for your khesra counts, not the Master Plan map. For the bypasses and the 60 m and 80 m roads, the Master Plan is still the document.
Bihta–Danapur elevated corridor: the link to the Ring Road
This 25.08 km four-lane elevated road is a separate NHAI project. Work began on 11 March 2024, and the December 2024 reply showed 13.64% progress. The Kanhauli–Sherpur junction is meant to join it.
We found no later official progress figure. Check NHAI before you rely on a date. For the area around it, see our Bihta, Naubatpur, Fatuha and Punpun guide.
What does the Ring Road mean for plot prices?
No government document we read gives a price effect. So we quote no number. A plot near a finished piece, like Kanhauli–Ramnagar, has a road today. A plot near an unawarded piece has only a line on a map.
Which "ring road" is which? Names people mix up
- Patna Ring Road (NH-131G): the NHAI six-lane highway above. The draft township plan calls NH-131G the "Bihta–Sarmera corridor".
- 60 m regional road (Master Plan 2031): a proposed "peripheral radial road". The plan says it can act as another bypass for Patna.
- 60 m ring in the Patliputra township draft: inside the township only. See the township village list.
What should you do?
- Ask for the khesra check in writing. Do this before the token money, not after the registry.
- Do not pay extra for "ring road touching". Ask the broker which piece it is, and whether it is built, awarded or only planned.
- Avoid land on a notified line. If a 3D notification already covers it, you buy a compensation claim, not a plot.
- Check water too. A road does not make a low plot safe. See the flood check.
- Papers first. See the Patna plot buying guide.
Patna Ring Road: frequently asked questions
- How long is the Patna Ring Road in total?
We found no single official total. The pieces in the table add up to different lengths, and some are not yet awarded. Do not trust a "total km" claim without NHAI's own list.
- Is the Bihta–Sarmera road the Ring Road?
The draft Patliputra township plan names NH-131G the "Bihta–Sarmera corridor". It is the same highway number as the Ring Road. Ask which piece a broker means.
- Which villages will the Ring Road pass through?
The official list is the land acquisition notification, which describes the land by village and khesra. We do not publish a village list we cannot verify. Ask the District Land Acquisition Office.
- What if my land is already notified?
After the 3A notice, owners had 21 days to object in writing. After the 3D declaration, the land vests in the Central Government, and the owner is paid compensation. Talk to a land lawyer at once.
- Is the Third Bypass approved?
It is in the Master Plan 2031 as a proposed road. We found no date for it.
